Almost all of ant pest species in Australia are social insects. They have numerous queens, kinds, workers and winged reproductive. They prefer t o make live in permanent colonies which can be located in variety of places such as in timber, soil, pavers, wall cavities, roof void spaces etc.

Ants are capable of travelling large distance in search of food, even if you kitchen is really clean it can provide a good food source for ants. Their sudden infestation usually occurs in summer and it can result in the pantry covered with ants.  Usually many ant species are not harmful but a few of them can inflict a really painful bite but most of them are nuisance pest when they infest your kitchen, BBQ areas, Pantry in large numbers.

Usually these ants are most active in summer and it can become really problematic.  They will be totally out in force with their huge numbers searching for food locations so that they can store it in their colonies for the cold winter months. There are many ant species found in homes some of the most common are Bulldog ant, Coastal brown ant, White Footed house ant, Carpenter ant and Odorous house ant. If the ant colony is located out of your house then you can apply a combination of ant bait granules and bifenthrin liquid treatment to obvious ant nesting sites and trailing areas. Many people are not aware of this but Permethrin is a natural extract of the pyrethrum plant and is of really low toxicity to humans, dogs and any other animals however it can be toxic to cats so it is better to avoid the use of Permethrin if you have a pet cat at your home. Permethrin is less toxic than a table salt.

It is also recommended that you seek the help from a professional pest controller which uses the latest technology in granular ant baits. Ants do take the bait and if done correctly, your house can be free from their home invasion.
